What is Citation?

A citation is the link or reference an answer engine uses to show where something it just said came from. It usually appears numbered next to the text or in a source list at the end. It's the most solid signal there is for measuring AI visibility, because it doesn't depend on interpreting a passage of text: either the domain is on the list or it isn't. Being cited is worth more than being mentioned in passing, since it can also bring the visit.
