AI Visibility Tools Compared: MencionIA, Profound, Peec AI, Otterly, Semrush, Ahrefs, Scrunch, AthenaHQ

· Samuel Martín· 10 min read

AI visibility tools track whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google's AI features name your brand when people ask about your category, and who they name instead. As of September 2026 the public entry prices run from $29 a month (MencionIA Business) and $50 a month (Ahrefs Brand Radar custom prompts) to $250 to $300 a month (Scrunch, AthenaHQ), with Profound and Peec AI not publishing prices. The right pick depends on whether you need monitoring only, or monitoring plus the fixes and content, and on how many brands you track.

This is a comparison written by one of the vendors. We say so up front, and we handle it the only honest way we know: every price and claim below was checked on the other company's own website on September 23, 2026, the source is listed at the bottom, and where a price is not public we say "not public" rather than guessing. If you find something outdated, the sources list is where to look.

All eight tools do the same core job: they ask the engines a set of questions on a schedule and record which brands get named and which pages get cited. They differ in who they are built for, how many engines and prompts they cover, whether they also do something about the results, and price.

The comparison at a glance

The table below is the short version: who each tool is for, the lowest public price, and the thing it does that the others do not. Prices are month-to-month unless stated; most vendors discount annual billing by 15 to 17 percent.

Prices from each vendor's public pricing page on 2026-09-23, in USD except where the vendor shows none. Semrush and Peec show local currency depending on where you browse from. Taxes may apply everywhere.

How to read the prices

The price that matters is the price per prompt you actually need, and the entry prices hide big differences there. Fifteen prompts (Otterly Lite) is enough for one small business with one service in one city. An agency with ten clients needs hundreds, and at that point Scrunch's 350 custom prompts for $300 or Peec's tiers are the comparison, not the $29 plans.

Two vendors, Profound and Peec AI, do not print a price. That usually means the price is negotiated, and it always means you should budget a sales call. Profound's page shows a free trial and an Enterprise tier only. Peec's page lists Starter, Pro and Advanced with prompt counts (50, 150 and 350) but no amounts in the page as we loaded it.

Semrush and Ahrefs are a different case: if you already pay for either, the AI visibility feature is either included in some form (Ahrefs includes a small number of custom prompts in its paid plans) or an add-on that is cheaper than a separate tool. If you do not already pay for them, you are buying an SEO suite to get a monitoring feature.

Tool by tool

MencionIA

MencionIA is for a small business or an agency that wants to know which engines name it and then wants the fixes and the missing pages done, at a price that does not require a budget line. We check whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude name your business when buyers ask about your category without naming brands, in how many engines you show up, and who gets named instead. The free check does that with no account.

The paid plans add an audit of your site with a GEO score (built on Lighthouse), a list of fixes with the impact and effort of each and a prompt pre-filled with your data so you can hand it to whoever edits the site, and the answer pages you are missing, written and ready to publish, including straight to WordPress through a plugin. Everything is also available inside Claude or ChatGPT through an MCP server, with the account's Google Ads data alongside. We measure the US and UK markets in English. Plans: Business $29/mo, Pro $79/mo, Agency $149/mo, Agency 30 $299/mo, no lock-in, taxes may apply.

What it is not: an enterprise dashboard with SSO, dozens of seats and nine engines. If you need that, look at Profound or Scrunch.

Profound

Profound is built for enterprise brands and the agencies that serve them. The public page offers a free trial (50 prompts a day for 7 days across ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, unlimited seats) and an Enterprise plan with custom pricing that tracks up to nine answer engines and adds dedicated support, SSO/SAML and SOC 2. It also sells "agent analytics" (which AI agents visit your site) and AI Marketer credits for running marketing agents. If your procurement team asks for a security questionnaire, this is the kind of tool they expect.

Peec AI

Peec AI targets SEO and content teams and is known for a clean interface focused on prompts, visibility and citations without much else. Starter covers 50 prompts, 3 models, unlimited users and 1 project with daily tracking; Pro covers 150 prompts and 2 projects; Advanced covers 350 prompts, 5 projects, multi-country and a Looker Studio integration; an annual/enterprise tier adds API access, SSO and up to 13 models. Prices are not shown on the pricing page as we loaded it, so plan on requesting them.

Otterly.AI

Otterly.AI is the cheapest way to get scheduled monitoring from an established vendor. Lite is $29 a month for 15 prompts across four engines (ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot) with daily tracking and unlimited team members. Standard, at $189 a month, raises that to 100 prompts and adds API access and 5,000 GEO URL audits a month; extra blocks of 100 prompts cost $99. Premium is $489 for 400 prompts. Annual billing takes 15 percent off. Note the engine list: Gemini and Claude are not in the four.

Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit

Semrush sells AI visibility two ways. As a standalone Base plan it is $99 a month per domain billed annually, with 25 custom prompts tracked daily, mentions from ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity, competitor analysis and an AI-readiness site audit. Inside the main SEO + AI Search plans, Starter is $199 a month ($165.17 billed annually) with 50 prompts a day and MCP access, Pro+ $299 with 100 prompts, Advanced $549 with 200. If your team already lives in Semrush, the bundle is the obvious route; if not, $99 for 25 prompts is on the expensive side per prompt.

Ahrefs Brand Radar

Ahrefs Brand Radar tracks brand mentions across six AI platforms (AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot, with Claude available) and also across YouTube and Reddit. Pricing has two parts: custom prompts you define start at $50 a month, and a small number of them are included free in every paid Ahrefs plan (5 to 20 depending on tier); the AI Visibility Index, at $199 a month, gives access to a very large pre-collected prompt set with 83 prompts a day and 2,500 checks a month. Its strength is breadth: if you want to know how your category is discussed across hundreds of prompts you did not write, the index is the differentiator.

Scrunch

Scrunch is for marketing teams and agencies that need volume and structure. Starter is $300 a month month-to-month ($250 on annual) for 3 users, 350 custom prompts, 1,000 industry prompts, 3 personas and 5 page audits; Growth is $500 ($417 annual) for 5 users, 700 custom prompts, 2,500 industry prompts, 5 personas and 10 page audits. Enterprise adds SAML/OIDC, a data API and a dedicated team. It covers ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and Overviews, and Meta. Personas (asking the same question as different buyer types) are its distinctive feature.

AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ has a free Essential tier with a $25 credit that covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Copilot, a Starter plan at $295 a month with 3,600 monthly credits and access to 11 models (adding Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral), a content optimization agent, integrations and CSV export, and a custom Enterprise plan with SSO, audit logs and multi-region support. The credit model means the effective price depends on how many prompts and engines you run; check the credit cost per prompt before comparing it to per-prompt plans.

How to choose

Choose by answering three questions: do you need monitoring or monitoring plus execution, how many prompts and brands do you track, and which engines do your buyers actually use. Everything else is preference.

  • One business, a handful of questions, and you will do the work yourself: Otterly Lite at $29 gives you the numbers. MencionIA Business at $29 gives you the numbers plus the audit and the pages.
  • One business, and you want the fixes and content produced, not listed: MencionIA Business or Pro. That is the case we built for.
  • An agency with several clients: compare per-prompt cost across MencionIA Agency plans, Scrunch Starter and Peec (once you have their price). Ask each vendor about white-label reporting and client seats.
  • Already paying for Semrush or Ahrefs: turn on the feature you already have before buying anything else. Ahrefs includes some prompts; Semrush's $99 Base plan is the standalone route.
  • Enterprise with procurement, SSO and nine engines: Profound, Scrunch Enterprise or AthenaHQ Enterprise. Budget for a sales cycle.
  • You want to work inside Claude or ChatGPT rather than in another dashboard: MencionIA's MCP server (Pro and up) and Semrush's MCP access (Starter and up) are the two options in this list that offer it.
Whatever you pick, run the same five questions by hand on each engine before you buy, and once a month after. A tool that reports 40 percent visibility on questions nobody asks is measuring the wrong thing, and the only way to know is to have asked the right ones yourself.

What every one of these tools has in common

All of them sample. None of them see inside the engines; they ask questions, read answers and count, the same thing you can do by hand for ten questions. The value they add is scale (hundreds of prompts, daily), consistency (same questions, same market, same time) and history (a trend line instead of a screenshot). The value only some of them add is telling you what to change and doing it. Decide which of those you are paying for, and the list above gets short quickly. Frequently asked questions

What is an AI visibility tool?

Software that asks AI engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Overviews and others) a set of questions on a schedule, records which brands are named and which pages are cited, and reports the share of answers that mention you versus competitors. Some tools also audit your site and suggest or produce content.

What is the cheapest AI visibility tool?

Among the eight compared here, as of September 23, 2026, the lowest paid entry points are MencionIA Business and Otterly.AI Lite at $29 a month each, followed by Ahrefs Brand Radar custom prompts from $50 a month. AthenaHQ and MencionIA both have free tiers; MencionIA's is a free check without an account.

Do I need an AI visibility tool if I already use Semrush or Ahrefs?

Start with what you have. Ahrefs includes a small number of Brand Radar custom prompts in every paid plan, and Semrush sells a $99 a month Base AI Visibility plan and bundles AI search tracking into its Starter plan at $199. Buy a separate tool when you need more prompts, more engines, or execution (fixes and content) rather than reporting.

Which engines should a US or UK business track?

ChatGPT first, then Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, then Perplexity, Gemini and Claude. Check your own analytics for referrals from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, gemini.google.com and claude.ai; the order of those referrals is the order your buyers use.

Why do the results change from day to day?

Generated answers vary between runs, and models get updated. Good tools ask each question several times and report a share rather than a single yes or no. Judge trends over weeks, not one day's number.

Is MencionIA a fair judge in this comparison?

We wrote it, so read it as one vendor's view. What we did to keep it honest: every price comes from the other vendor's public pricing page on the date shown, the sources are listed, we wrote "not public" where we could not verify, and we say who each tool is better for than we are.
